He holds a Bachelor's degree in dentistry (1985), specialization in dental prosthesis (1985), masters in dentistry (Orthodontics) (1990) and a PhD in Sciences (Radiology), all of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He is specialist in Functional Orthopedics by the Federal Council of Dentistry (2006). In 1994 won first prize Amedeo Bobbio-best monograph on the history of Brazilian dentistry-offered by IMOSP. He was Director and Editor of the "Journal of the Brazilian Society of Orthodontics" in the 2005-2006 biennium. He is Professor of Orthodontics, professor in the doctoral course of PPGO-UFF and specialization course in orthodontics at Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF). He was researcher fellow at the Karolinska Institutet (Huddinge-Sweden) and consultant of the journals: Journal of the Mechanical Behavior of Biomedical Materials, Brazilian Oral Research and Dental Press Journal of Orthodontics. He is the author of the books "History of Orthodontics in Brazil" and "Manual of Cephalometrics”, currently in the third edition. He has experience in the field of dentistry, with emphasis on Orthodontics, directing research projects in specialization courses in orthodontics, masters in dentistry (Orthodontics concentration area), and dentistry (dental clinic concentration area) and Post Doctorate in dentistry at UFF.
